Spreading the Word about Blogs...and eBay Motors

So I guess blogs are kind of cool. Over Spring Break, I was actually excited to show my boss, Tom, at the Lexus dealership my Japanese car blog. He became so excited about it that he decided that he wanted to start up his own blog for the dealership. Tom said that he had always wanted to build his own website but didn't want to pick up an HTML book and learn how to code. Well there you go, blogs are perfect because they require minimal knowledge of HTML. I will keep you guys posted if a Lawrence Lexus blog ever enters the so-called blogosphere.

Also new this week is the addition of live eBay links to Japanese car auctions on the left hand column of my blog. I think I would actually consider buying a car on eBay only if the person selling it was in driving distance. I don't think I could fully trust buying a car without physically looking or driving it. Surprisingly though, we have people come to our dealership from around the country to pick up cars they bought on eBay from us. We even have an eBay salesperson! eBay Motors is also finding that buying a car online removes the traditional price haggling bargaining process that many people, especially women, do not like. With eBay Motors, the seller does not know the buyer's characteristics, which can be very advantageous for people with a lack of car knowledge. I'm definitely an eBay fan, but I might need to see a ridiculous deal before I buy my next car on eBay Motors. Let me know about your own thoughts or experiences.

I have a friend that has bought two cars on ebay in the past four years, and he has had no problems with the purchases or the cars, but he said the delivery of one of the cars was very long. I'm not sure if this was the fault of the seller or if it just generally takes long to deliver cars across the country. I would definitely buy a car off of ebay as long as it was from a trusted and well-reputed dealership. I agree with you and would prefer to buy a car that was within driving distance so I could check it out. I would probably avoid buying a car from ebay if it was from an independent seller unless it was an amazing deal with a flawless record...

I know someone who bought a Audi off of eBay and got a junker. Although the seller said the car was in perfect condition, when it arrived at her house, the car wouldn't start. The original owner tried to blame my friend and eBay refused to get involved. I don't think I would ever buy a car off of eBay. Has anyone ever come into your dealership after having bought a car on eBay who was unhappy with their purchase?

seems like josh's 'condition' makes sense, only by from a reputed dealer when buying something as 'complex' as a car (if you plan to use ebay) rather than an individual.

I would never think to buy a car on eBay, but if someone can get a good deal on a nice car i'm all for it. but its true, you have to be careful about who you're buying from. that would suck to pay thousands of dollars for a junk car.

I've bought three cars from eBay, all from private parties and not from dealers. Each car was exactly like they were described, and one was even bettr than the description! Best advice, if it sounds too god to be true, it probably is.
